If we get our young’uns to sport these, they will look way moby! Then we can keep them in zoos without supervision.

Why Vista Makes Me Grr

August 3rd, 2009

I have not been keeping record of why I can’t stand Vista. Microsoft is so ashamed of their work they call it “Windows 6″ for the service packs. Anyhow the recent support cry was for a webcam, which Microsoft kindly and intentionally removed support for. Apparently something in Service Packs can help, so here is the friendly message:

One hour? That is longer than installing the OS takes! Plus the service packs are no longer cumulative, so SP1 has to go first. What a joke! A gigabyte download and all of this to add support for a native XP function. Please indicate whether you want to read this post. Windows needs your permission to do what you are trying…

Nods to nice Utilities.

Ever download a trial version to handle one of those EVIL proprietary image formats like .daa or .uif? Thanks to Luigi’s tools problem solved. I tested UIF2ISO and DAA2ISO using a multi-part image. Very sweet. Whoever creates non-standard image makers like MagicISO or PowerWhatever makes me angry.

Ninth! Ps2. Is there a pattern here..

June 30th, 2009

I have found that younger gamers are much harder on systems. Duh! Ps2 number seven has been repaired twice for bad power jack. I just went in and replaced the failing laser with a 7 dollar one from DealExtreme. It worked quite well. In fact I grabbed another used PS2 (number 8) that has the same failing laser problem to keep as a backup for the main ps2.

Ever since the original Playstation was released in white, I have wanted something other than black. To avoid battles over whether I get to play games or just give up to the children I purchased number Nine. It was silver and the picture on the box looked promising. Silver is closer to white.

The price went down, along with the build quality. The plastic is cheaper feeling, none of the cool ribs are built in, and the finish is like a silver krylon spray can job in someone’s greasy garage. It is hard to depress the power button since it is flush with the case material.

After all this hoonanny a pristine PS3 showed up on Craig’slist that was backwards compatible, and in the price range I would be willing to pay! So here are the current stats for my allegiance to Sony:

  • PS1 = 3

  • Pocketstation = 1

  • PS2 = 9 (I only paid for 6)

  • PS3 = 1

We Are three Pilots

May 27th, 2009

Shiny Toy Guns has several versions of their first CD. For all the talk about remastering and different female vocalists, these albums seem very similar. I made comparison tables and listened to them all. Here are simple track lists:

The European version is Version 3, but also has Rocketship as Track 12.

Full Bearded Display

May 11th, 2009

“No-Name” is my work mascot. He is an almost one year old bearded dragon that has grown up at my job. The teammates all enjoy him, especially watching the crickets get devoured at feeding time. The question comes up from visitors, “How do you know he is happy in his cage?” So I took a picture of what he looks like when he is not too happy. This is his full display:

No-name the bearded dragon showing his full beard.

Beardies are awesome because you can tell just by looking at them what their mood is. They should be named mood-ring dragons.

Happy Mother’s Day!

May 11th, 2009

We got an interesting surprise on Mother’s Day! The question is this: Is “Fire” the snake a mother on Mother’s day, or when the eggs hatch?

Fire is almost a mother! We will know in about 50 days if she is.

As a bonus, we now know the gender of our two smaller snakes.

They found Leviathan

April 30th, 2009

Evidence of larger sea creatures that more accurately match the Bible’s description (Job 41) of Leviathan. Now you should feel bad for making fun of the olde-worlde map makers who knew these creatures were out there!

New evidence that Dinosaurs are nowhere near as old as evolution keeps clinging to.

And a cute little snake.

While waiting for Okami 2…

April 21st, 2009

Muramasa: The Demon Blade is likely to come to the states. This Wii game approaches the style and ambience of Okami. For a side-scroller 2D, it is magnificent!
